As a Title I school, resources like these make a profound difference. Having physical copies of texts in every student's hands creates an equitable, immersive learning environment that wouldn't be possible without your support.\r\n\r\nOur academic pathway is unique: because we are an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, our students take AP Language and Composition during their sophomore year before moving into IB Literature for their junior and senior years. Because they are sophomores, our students are still required to take state End-of-Course (EOC) exams and district assessments alongside the AP curriculum. To ensure they excel on these standardized assessments while preparing for the intense reading load of IB, we deliberately weave both high-level non-fiction and classic fiction into our coursework.\r\n\r\nYour support directly funds three of the major texts anchoring our school year:\r\n\r\nFall Non-Fiction (Night by Elie Wiesel): Thanks to your donation, students are currently reading Night and preparing for a student-led Socratic Seminar where they will analyze rhetoric, memory, and human resilience.\r\n\r\nFall Fiction (Lord of the Flies by William Golding): Next, students will dive into Golding's classic novel. We will pair this text with a formal group debate examining human nature and the role of individuals within society.\r\n\r\nSpring Non-Fiction (Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson): In the spring, students will use this powerful text to analyze argumentative structure, rhetoric, and contemporary societal issues.\r\n\r\n(Note: While we will also read The Great Gatsby in the spring as our second fiction text, your generous gift specifically funded our sets of Night, Lord of the Flies, and Just Mercy—filling critical gaps in our curriculum that we otherwise could not cover.)\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our sophomores.
