In an Autism Level 2 setting, visuals and repetition are essential for helping my students understand new concepts. Your gift has made a significant difference in the way we teach and the way our students learn.\r\nBecause of the laminator, we are able to create durable task boxes that support learning across academic, communication, and vocational areas. For our English task boxes, students use laminated vocabulary cards, sentence-building tasks, and grammar activities that they can practice repeatedly without materials wearing out. For our math, the task boxes help reinforce foundational skills such as money math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We also create vocational task boxes that teach real‑life skills like purchasing items, reading receipts, comparing prices, matching products, and other job‑related tasks that foster independence.\r\nThe laminator is used daily and has become an essential part of our instructional routines. The ability to create sturdy, reusable visuals allows my students to engage with lessons in a way that feels predictable, hands‑on, and accessible.\r\nMy students get excited whenever we introduce a new task box. The shiny, durable laminated pieces make the activities feel like games, and students are more motivated to interact with them. Many of my students seek out these tasks during independent work time because they feel confident and successful using them.\r\nYes. A few of my students who typically struggle with traditional paper‑and‑pencil and technology have shown a noticeable increase in engagement. One student in particular, who usually avoids academic tasks, now eagerly chooses laminated matching and sorting activities because the visuals are clear and the materials are easy for him to handle. The lamination helps reduce anxiety around mistakes. Students know the materials are sturdy, reusable, and meant for hands‑on learning.\r\nYour donation has truly strengthened the learning environment for my students. I teach in a high school self-contained autism classroom, where hands-on, functional learning is essential for student success. These materials were used to create a mock drugstore within our vocational/task box area, which allows students to practice real-world skills in a structured and supportive environment.\r\n\r\nStudents rotate through the vocational/task box area in small groups to develop skills such as shopping, daily living tasks, and job-related skills. This instruction aligns with district curriculum goals and focuses on building independence for students with disabilities, including autism, skills that are critical as they prepare for adulthood.\r\n\r\nThe students absolutely loved the pegboard activity. They especially enjoyed having an option that allows them to stand and work, as many tasks typically require sitting. This increased engagement and motivation during instruction. As the school year continues, we plan to expand our vocational/task box area because we have seen how meaningful and beneficial these activities are for students' long-term growth and independence.","fullyFundedDate":1763083912743,"projectUrl":"project/job-skills-ready/9804806/","projectTitle":"Job Skills Ready","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gaddy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8896814_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759956695295","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8896814"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107570","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2703,"numTeachers":151,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":56,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":45.4,"schoolId":107570,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Discovery High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Discovery High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/gwinnett-county-public-schools/discovery-high-school/107570"}
