It has been like Christmas, with new items arriving all the time. Most of the items are being used as work boxes for the students to complete and help them get ready for the work environment. Specifically, the burger building manipulative is one of the students' favorites. They feel like they work at McDonalds as they assemble the burgers and make sure their \"order\" is correct! They enjoyed unpacking this item and one student even asked if he could keep one of the packaging materials from the box for a project! \r\n Many of the items are also used as individual activities for students throughout the day, such as the aliens and the counting bears. One student will sign for the bears when given choices! They improve his fine motor skills, help him sort by color, and increase his ability to plan out tasks by setting up his work space. These are also building his independence in the classroom and helping him work for longer periods of time on a given task or set of tasks.\r\n My students truly appreciate the opportunities you have provided for them to learn and grow! With each activity and material, I am able to ensure my students can strive toward greater independence in the world outside my classroom. The students really appreciated it. Because of you and your generous donations, we were able to put on several different community based engagement activities for our students.\r\n\r\nWe had a celebratory end of the quarter cookout where students were able to celebrate their accomplishments for the year. We were also able to honor students each month as students of the months and use the items as prizes. Additionally at the end of the semester we had a finals study day complete with hot chocolate. \r\n\r\nTeaching is a work of heart but having a strong community backing makes it even more special.
