The students were able to apply real world, 3-D STEM practices during the design of the nose cone of the rocket, and the fins of the rocket for aerodynamics. \r\n\r\n They also experimented with the mass of their rocket with no water, 20ml , and 40ml of water. Students were able to make qualitative and quantitative observations regarding how mass of the rocket per trial affected the hight the rockets soared into the air. The rocket launchers helped to solidify their understand of the concept: (For every action their is an equal and opposite reaction.)\r\n\r\n At the conclusion of the rocket launching, we returned to the classroom to analyze our data in cooperative groups. Students discussed: independent, dependent, and control variables; if their hypothesis matched the data in their results; and the relationship between the mass of the bottle rocket per trial versus the distance the rocket soared into the sky in meters. My students worked hard and had a lot of fun thinking and applying what they learned in class.
