Students rush into the room each morning to check on the birds, counting how many new eggs have appeared and peeking through the glass enclosure to see what the quail are up to. One of the first things they noticed was the quails' dust bathing, and this quickly turned into a moment of natural curiosity: \"Why do they do that?\" Students began researching safe practices for quail care and learning new vocabulary connected to animals and habitats. Even students passing in the hallway often stop to listen to the soft calls coming from our room. Many of them say the males sound like \"little dinosaurs,\" which has become a running joke and a shared point of excitement.\r\n\r\nWhen the habitat was first set up, my students' reactions were full of joy and surprise. Several stood quietly at the glass just smiling, while others immediately asked questions about how to care for them, how the eggs develop, and what the quail like to eat. The materials you funded made it possible for the quail to have a clean, safe, and enriching environment, and my students have taken real pride in maintaining it. Some days, we even go outside together to search for small bugs the quail can safely eat. The students researched which insects are appropriate, turning a simple outdoor break into a meaningful English-language learning experience rooted in inquiry and real-world vocabulary.\r\n\r\nYour support has opened the door for ongoing learning opportunities. Next, students will be creating observation journals, building short written pieces about animal behavior, and practicing new language skills by explaining what they see and hear from the quail each week. We also plan to establish a rotating student \"Quail Care Team,\" giving them leadership roles and daily responsibilities. Your contribution didn't just fund a habitat, it created a shared classroom experience that brings joy, builds language skills, and gives our multilingual learners a sense of ownership and connection. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1758218378730,"projectUrl":"project/curious-quails-multilingual-minds-real/9475783/","projectTitle":"Curious Quails, Multilingual Minds: Real-Life Learning Through Nature","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6234581_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662125274163","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6234581"},{"teacherId":8891052,"projectId":9655835,"letterContent":"I'm so grateful to the generous sponsors on DonorsChoose who made it possible for my students to receive a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 and game for my after-school eSports program. For many of our students, access to nutritious food during the school day isn't guaranteed, and these snacks have helped bridge that gap—fueling both their bodies and their minds. With consistent access to wholesome options like granola bars, fruit cups, and trail mix, students are more focused, energized, and ready to tackle hands-on projects that require creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nBeyond the physical benefits, these snacks have created a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. Students feel cared for and valued, knowing that someone outside the classroom is investing in their success. It's not just about food—it's about equity and empowerment. When students aren't distracted by hunger, they're more likely to engage deeply in STEM challenges, ask thoughtful questions, and take pride in their work. These small bites have had a big impact, helping our young engineers dream bigger and build with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1747235610322,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-future-engineers-nutritious-sna/9257759/","projectTitle":"Fueling Future Engineers: Nutritious Snacks for Middle School Innovators!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Park","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8891052_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y8&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1680109056847","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8891052"},{"teacherId":6234581,"projectId":9062888,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students had the unforgettable opportunity to raise Painted Lady butterflies as part of our unit on migration. When the caterpillars first arrived, the classroom buzzed with excitement. Each student carefully moved their caterpillar into a personal container, many even giving them names. They faithfully recorded their observations in journals, noting each stage of growth and transformation.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful lessons came when the cocoons were transferred into the enclosure. Students giggled as the cocoons \"danced\" when touched, but they also showed incredible empathy when some butterflies emerged with crumpled wings. They lovingly fed these fragile butterflies fruit and created safe spaces in the classroom for them to roam, learning the importance of caring for the vulnerable.\r\n\r\nThis project gave students more than science knowledge—it gave them a hands-on connection between the butterfly's migration and their own families' migration stories. They began to see migration as a universal phenomenon tied to resilience, survival, and purpose. Though they were saddened to learn the butterflies' lives were short, students understood their journey had meaning, just like the journeys their families have taken.","fullyFundedDate":1740959001769,"projectUrl":"project/the-magic-of-butterflies-a-comparison-t/9062888/","projectTitle":"The Magic of Butterflies: a Comparison to Human Migration","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6234581_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662125274163","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6234581"},{"teacherId":8041848,"projectId":9080288,"letterContent":"Our students have been enthusiastically engaging in our school's crochet club (Knotty By Nature) , and the recent donation of yarn and crochet needles has significantly enriched their experience. The accessibility of materials has removed a major barrier for many, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for students of all skill levels to come together to learn, share, and create.\r\n\r\nWith the new resources, our students have begun crafting a variety of items, including scarves, hats, and small decorative pieces, which they are gifting to school staff and fellow students. The students are not only learning a valuable skill but also experiencing the joy of contributing positively to their environment. In the near future, we are excited to launch a fundraiser where we will sell our handmade items to the public. The goal is to raise money to support school initiatives and further invest in the club's growth. This project will also teach students entrepreneurial skills, such as pricing, marketing, and customer service, adding another layer of educational value to their crochet journey.","fullyFundedDate":1742047049033,"projectUrl":"project/knotty-by-nature/9080288/","projectTitle":"Knotty by Nature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8041848_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697657988088","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jcypopandpaint"},{"teacherId":8891052,"projectId":9234146,"letterContent":"I am writing to express our deepest gratitude for your generous contributions to our Title I middle school engineering program.
