The indoor basketball hoop immediately caught their attention, and they could not wait to use it during our math practice. We have been using the addition and subtraction flashcards to build fluency and practice our math facts, while the basketball hoop has allowed us to turn our math drills into an exciting, interactive experience. Instead of simply completing problems on paper, my scholars get to move, compete, encourage one another, and celebrate their progress while practicing important first-grade math skills.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students who were initially hesitant about math become more confident and eager to participate. The basketball-themed prizes have also been a fun way to recognize students for their hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. As we continue preparing for our school's March Mathness challenge, we will keep practicing addition and subtraction strategies, working toward greater fact fluency, and challenging ourselves to become stronger mathematicians. Thank you to our generous donors for helping make math practice something my scholars look forward to and for giving them resources that make learning both meaningful and fun!","fullyFundedDate":1744033046302,"projectUrl":"project/march-mathness-a-slam-dunk-math-tournam/9024140/","projectTitle":"March Mathness: A Slam Dunk Math Tournament!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8490220_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1655688159770","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8490220"},{"teacherId":8490220,"projectId":8151616,"letterContent":"This project has had a wonderful impact on my students' learning by making addition and subtraction practice more engaging, interactive, and accessible. Scholars were buzzing with excitement as they browsed the shelves, carefully choosing how to spend their Bucks. One student said, \"I've been saving all week for this!\" It's amazing to see how something as simple as a snack can be a powerful tool for goal-setting, responsibility, and celebration.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we're working on reinforcing financial literacy and personal responsibility by encouraging scholars to budget their Phoenix Bucks over time. Our next steps include incorporating academic incentives into the store offering special rewards tied to reading goals, writing growth, and classroom performance.
