Students didn't just read and memorize poems. I also added music to the poems in order to teach rhythms and patterns. This made learning about poetry extra special. We even brought in a karaoke machine to allow students to perform the poems!\r\n\r\nEach of the poems in The Biggest Burp Ever are totally relatable by the kids. Some of the poems were silly, fantastical, family-oriented, etc. The students enjoyed them so much that they started reading poems in the book that were not \"assigned.\" This impacted their reading as well as their comprehension! \r\n\r\nIn addition to comprehension, poetry also helped my students increase their vocabulary as well as their ability to rhyme. Rhyming pairs such as 'spaghetti - Yeti' and 'Tibet-baguette' made kids laugh out loud. It also got the kids comfortable with creating their own poem. So, the books you donated not only fostered a love of reading, but writing as well. I've noticed a significant increase in the time students spend reading independently, and most importantly, they're enjoying it!\r\nWith a wider selection of chapter books, students are exploring new genres, characters, and themes. This has sparked meaningful classroom discussions and improved their reading comprehension and vocabulary.\r\nChapter books challenge students to stick with longer texts and build their reading stamina. I've seen students grow more confident and proud of themselves as they complete their first \"big books.\"\r\nThe variety of books, ranging in difficulty and subject matter, ensures that every student can find something at their level.
