Johnson K-8 School of International Studies. As a physical education teacher working with middle school students, I have always believed that fitness education should be more than just games and activities. It should empower students to build strength, confidence, and lifelong habits that support their physical and mental well-being. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to take a major step toward that goal.\r\n\r\nBefore this fundraiser, our PE program had the vision and enthusiasm to introduce structured strength training, but we lacked the equipment to do it safely and effectively. Your donations allowed us to purchase essential gear including dumbbells, kettlebells, benches, resistance bands, and racks. This equipment immediately transformed our space and gave us the ability to launch a structured, age-appropriate strength training curriculum that engages students of all fitness levels.\r\n\r\nWe designed the program to rotate students through three different workout stations each day. This structure keeps students active and focused while allowing us to provide individualized instruction and support. It also ensures that students experience a variety of exercises and movement patterns, which helps them develop balanced strength and coordination. Safety is a top priority in our curriculum. We have intentionally avoided exercises such as barbell deadlifts that are not suitable for this age group. Instead, we focus on proper form, control, and body awareness.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been truly inspiring. Students who were previously hesitant about fitness have found confidence in the weight room. They are learning how to set goals, track their progress, and support one another through each workout. It is not just about building physical strength. It is about building character, discipline, and self-belief. I have seen students walk into class unsure of themselves and leave feeling proud, strong, and motivated.\r\n\r\nThis program has also helped foster a culture of teamwork and encouragement. Students cheer each other on, celebrate personal milestones, and learn the value of persistence and effort. It has been amazing to watch them grow not only physically but also emotionally and socially. Building books to showcase student work is the culmination of planning, writing, editing, printing, staining, and finally binding the work. The schoolwide project involved collecting short poems, many of them haikus, from all grade levels in this K-8 School. For the younger grades, many poems were facilitated by the older students. Despite language level, poems were written from the student perspective and organized to form a complete book. \r\nOnce the poems were written, typed, edited, and printed - student artists stepped in to add original artwork to the pages. These illustrations were inspired by the words previously written. Finally, the leathers covers were stained by student artists prior to the binding.
