Students of all ages are highly motivated by class rewards. Rewarding students for good behavior and academic success is a very effective tool to promote and celebrate a student’s accomplishments. Knowing that a fun treat, little toy, or break is waiting for them can help students get through the math assignments and activities that they struggle with or dislike. Many times, incentive rewards work as motivational tools. It can also aid in making the classroom feel like a positive, welcoming environment. Incentives reward the effort of the students. Receiving a reward for a job well done, even if it's a small reward, is a way for teachers and a student's peers to recognize a student for achieving personal growth. It validates the need for putting forth the hard work necessary when learning to master a new math skill.
