I have been able to use this pedal to show my students that playing bass is about more than just learning the notes and rhythms. I want my students to understand how much their sound can affect the way they play and how they are heard by others. With the Tone Hammer, I can let them experiment with the gain, EQ, and drive and hear the changes for themselves. I have really enjoyed watching students turn different knobs and immediately notice how much their sound changes. \r\n\r\nI also really like being able to combine the Tone Hammer with the other pedals in my program. I can have my students experiment with the compressor, octave, chorus, and overdrive pedals and then use the Tone Hammer to shape the overall sound. I can give them a basic sound and then have them try different combinations to see what they can create. It has been especially rewarding for me to see students get excited when they find a tone that they really like. The inflatable globes especially caught their attention because they were something they could hold, examine, and use rather than simply look at on a screen or in a textbook. As you know, often times, learning about geography, can be very boring! \r\n\r\nOverall, the new resources have made geography much more hands-on and meaningful for my sixth-grade students. They have been able to identify and compare different types of maps, including political, physical, and special-purpose maps, while learning that each type of map has a different purpose and use. Instead of simply reading about maps in a textbook, students can physically interact with maps and apply what they are learning.\r\n\r\nOne of our most successful activities has involved using the Political Inflatable Globes and the Wipe World Tabletop Map. Students worked together to locate specific latitude and longitude coordinates, identify the Equator and Prime Meridian, and determine which hemisphere a location is in. They were able to physically trace locations and discuss how coordinates help us identify exact places on Earth. Because they were able to get up and move, use tangible items, students were so excited to come to class the next day in hopes of doing it again! \r\n\r\nA particularly memorable moment was watching students who initially struggled to understand latitude and longitude become excited when they were able to locate a coordinate themselves. They began challenging one another to find locations and explain their reasoning - all while using accountable talk. I loved hearing their rationales and how they were explaining different concepts to their peers. The resources turned what could have been an abstract lesson into an interactive learning experience!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to build on our work with maps and coordinates by connecting geography to the study of early civilizations. Students will use latitude and longitude, physical geography, and map-reading skills to investigate where early civilizations developed and why people settled in particular locations. They will examine how access to rivers, fertile land, mountains, deserts, and other geographic features influenced the development of civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. They will use maps to locate these civilizations and then explain how their environments affected the way people lived, worked, traveled, and established communities. At the end of our Mesopotamia unit, we will create a model of the Euphrates and Tigres rivers from air dry clay! \r\n\r\nI can not thank you enough for the ability to bring Geography to life for my new to middle school 6th grade students! These 3 bass guitars have been used by dozens of students to learn how the bass guitar works and how it can be used in the modern band ensemble. This is how life long musicians are born and you had a large part to do with that. \r\n\r\nThe donated Jackson Minion Short Scale Bass guitars have made music more accessible for my students. Their comfortable size helps students build confidence while learning rhythm, groove, and collaboration. We were able to make over 100 posters about recent natural disasters. This is so impactful because anyone could face a natural disaster at any sparing moment. These students know how to stay safe in an event of disaster and can share their knowledge to protect others. Living in Florida, this knowledge is so important as we face hurricanes, flash flooding, rip-tides, rain droughts, wild fires, and more.\r\n\r\nStudents were also able to research recent volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, avalanches, and more, increasing their safety knowledge in these emergency scenarios too!\r\n\r\nSeeing the materials was a relief to my students because the worry of procrastinating and buying a poster-board last minute never needed to occur. Students had everything they needed in my classroom.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we shift out of earth science and begin physics! Look forward to hearing about racecar projects, physics in sports, and energy! One of the ways students started learning to see what they're drawing in a different way was to do a blind contour. They drew their hands without looking at the paper to begin. They then were each given a picture of a plant and did a blind contour that they transferred onto watercolor paper. They then learned about warm and cool colors by watercolor painting the plant a warm or cool color and then the background the opposite.\r\nThey were very excited to use paints after spending a bit of time with pencils and they are very proud to have their artwork displayed. I have attached some pictures of the projects.\r\nEach art project uses materials and materials cost money.
