Students earn Tornado points by making good choices, supporting one another, and following school expectations. Once they reached their goal, the resources were used to celebrate their success and encourage continued positive behavior throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited, proud, and eager to participate. Many students expressed how good it felt to be recognized for doing the right thing. The excitement quickly turned into motivation, as students began encouraging their peers and reminding one another that working together helps everyone succeed.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, students are now more engaged in setting behavior goals and reflecting on their choices. Our next steps include continuing to track PBIS data, setting new monthly goals, and tying positive behavior to classroom learning by reinforcing responsibility, perseverance, and collaboration during lessons and group activities. These resources help create a positive learning environment where students feel valued, motivated, and excited to come to school each day.","fullyFundedDate":1762456588703,"projectUrl":"project/caught-in-a-good-storm-pbis-rewards-for/9585666/","projectTitle":"Caught in a Good Storm: PBIS Rewards for Our Tornadoes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9167836_orig.jpg?crop=943,943,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721696110734","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9167836"},{"teacherId":7381178,"projectId":9969978,"letterContent":"This project has had an immediate impact on both student learning and instructional effectiveness in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe students participate in differentiated reading and phonics groups that rotate between two classrooms. Because of this structure, it is essential that all students have access to materials that remain in my classroom. The supplies provided through this project eliminated time spent gathering and sharing materials, allowing instruction to begin immediately and maximizing our limited small-group learning time. \r\n\r\nEach student now has a personal book bin that contains their folder, writing journals, and a pencil box stocked with crayons, scissors, a glue stick, a highlighter, and a dry-erase marker and eraser. It also contains their differentiated books. Having individual supplies has promoted responsibility, independence, and organization. Students are excited to have their own \"tool box\" for reading.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has ensured equitable access to essential learning materials, supported differentiated instruction, and helped create an organized, efficient learning environment. Most importantly, it is helping create motivated readers and writers who are taking responsibility for their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1766604095910,"projectUrl":"project/grab-go-and-grow-personalized-reading/9969978/","projectTitle":"Grab, Go, and Grow: Personalized Reading Supplies for Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. England","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7381178_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1596394931421","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7381178"},{"teacherId":6894887,"projectId":9247507,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students now have access to books that truly spark their curiosity, strengthen their reading skills, and open doors to new ideas and experiences. They all saw the boxes when they arrived and I had shown them all the pieces that I had to put together first before we could get to use them. They were waiting with great anticipation and excitement for the day I would finally pull them out of the boxes and pass them out. \r\nI had them watching some song videos in different music styles to help them learn how to tie their shoes. And they were told to keep trying until they got it. Many of them still find this very difficult so we are going to keep trying at least once every other lesson to put a shoe tying song into the lesson plan. I'm sure that they will get it if they continue to practice. I'm hoping that just like in music, practice will make perfect. \r\nThe ones who already know how to tie their shoes had to at least tie the shoe on their board one time and then they could try using the other items, the belts with buckles and buttons, and puzzle pieces. After about 10 minutes I asked the ones who know to tie their shoes, to go and try to help a friend without tying the shoe for them. I was also trying to pull a few aside to help them and show them how it's done. They took up the challenge and really put forth an effort to help their friends out. It's such a change from the technology that they have become familiar with. These activities promote social skills as the students work together, learn to compromise, and listen to one another. It develops fine motor skills and problem solving skills, without asking five year old students to sit and complete worksheets. It is so rewarding to see them actively engaged and excited about learning.
