For many students unlocking vocabulary is the key to expanding their imagination as they delve into the world of literature or explore the physical terrain of the earth exploring the nature of science. The Literature, Informational Reading, and Vocabulary learning materials selected in this project will assist in accelerating my at-risk students in a manner that is engaging while providing the rigor needed to help the students move into proficient levels of reading comprehension. As I work with small differentiated groups I can present grade level material to struggling students and have the students practice in an atmosphere that does not present itself as "test-mode". The folder game learning materials take the "high stakes" pressure out of the learning environment as it is transformed into an arena of comfort where errors can be made without stigma or embarrassment. Students are open to learn from errors rather than shrink in shame when practicing with the Lakeshore folder reading comprehension and vocabulary games.
