We are a Title 1 school, meaning that a large portion of our students come from homes that are living in poverty. The items that you graciously donated to our classroom were sent just after the November 2025 government shut down, when these families were affected by the cessation of food stamps, and many families were still reeling from the rippling effects of having those supports removed from their families. In our unit, we held both a Thanksgiving and a Christmas dinner for our students, and it was our unit that raised the most donations for the Thanksgiving Food Drive as many of our students were directly benefiting from those donations. \r\nHaving these food items in class allowed my self-contained special needs students to find a place of solace in a time of unsurety. Our classroom was a place of comfort and safety beyond what it normally is. They didn't have to try to \"power through\" their hunger, they were able to solve it. I was able to teach many of them life skills, such as how to use a microwave to prepare these items independently, and we were able to send some of these items home with them over the weekend to supplement the food they had access to at home.","fullyFundedDate":1766067649629,"projectUrl":"project/meeting-basic-needs-to-build-better-acad/9938301/","projectTitle":"Meeting Basic Needs to Build Better Academic and Behavior Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cooksey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9884909_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769252090189","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9884909"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70543","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":655,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":70543,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Centennial Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Centennial Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pasco-county-school-district/centennial-middle-school/70543"}
