This year has been a busy one from the start. \r\n\r\nOur school was selected to pilot the Core Knowledge Language Arts program, which elevates the students literacy learning skills. Instead of watering content down down to a seven year old's ability level, students are taught about historical events and science topics at an accelerated pace. While learning about the war of 1812, my students used the TinkerToys and Brain Flakes, along with a student's army men figurines, to recreate the battle at Fort McHenry. This battle resulted in Francis Scott Key writing the Star Spangled Banner (yes, I am dropping some serious historical knowledge today :) ). Months after the unit has ended, students are able to accurately recall many facts because they are pretending and using the materials donated to our class. \r\nThis school year, our class has also gone deskless. Students are given many options to choose from while sitting around the room and learning. The donation of the big plastic bins have given students their own personal space around the room.","fullyFundedDate":1499752494731,"projectUrl":"project/miss-rs-second-grade-student-centered-c/2628055/","projectTitle":"Miss R's Second Grade Student-Centered Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rosario","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4527031_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1499361468206","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missreiniger"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74218","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":800,"numTeachers":66,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.6,"schoolId":74218,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Diamond View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Diamond View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/palm-beach-county-public-schools/diamond-view-elementary-school/74218"}
