Thanks to your support, we successfully purchased 24 aquariums, along with the necessary water heaters and filtration systems. Your generosity didn't just buy equipment; it funded the creation of the \"Living Lab: Aquarium Edition\" right here in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe new resources have completely transformed the learning environment. Students are paired into groups of two or three and are directly responsible for the health and vitality of their assigned tank. Each team cares for its own small community, which includes two clownfish, several snails, a few hermit crabs, and a goby fish.\r\n\r\nWhen the large boxes arrived containing the tanks and equipment, there were audible gasps of excitement. But the real magic happened when we introduced the inhabitants. Seeing the vibrant colors of their two clownfish settle into their new homes, and watching the little hermit crabs scuttle for the first time, turned biological concepts into real living subjects. For many, it was the first time they'd truly connected with marine science. The initial excitement has since matured into a deep sense of responsibility and curiosity.\r\n\r\nThe core of their work revolves around applied chemistry and biology. They are actively learning how to maintain water quality, like salinity, pH, and nitrate levels. This responsibility has taught them more about scientific precision and data logging than any standard lecture ever could. We currently have 44 clownfish and 30 goby fish thriving in our classroom, all being meticulously cared for by their young scientists.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making these unforgettable learning experiences possible. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to host a truly impactful experience that exceeded our expectations.\r\nBecause of your donation, not only were we able to provide the necessary equipment and resources for our own team, but we were also fortunate enough to assist other teams who lacked access to proper gear. Your support helped level the playing field, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to participate with dignity, confidence, and fairness. This act of solidarity embodies the true spirit of community, and we are honored to have had you as a partner in making it happen.\r\nThe event itself was a great success, with enthusiastic participation and overwhelmingly positive feedback from everyone involved. Many learners, especially those who are shy, process information slowly, or fear public error, often remained silent. The whiteboards have shattered this barrier, fostering a culture of universal participation.\r\n\r\nNow, every question is an opportunity for every student to contribute. Your support has had an immediate and exciting impact on our students, transforming how they approach reading from a chore into an adventure.\r\n\r\nYour donation has been a game-changer for student engagement, which is the necessary first step to academic success. For many ninth graders, high school literature can feel overwhelming, but a high-interest, fast-paced novel like this provides a powerful entry point. The instant enthusiasm the book generated created a unique and visible community of readers in our classroom. Instead of silent, solitary reading, our class is now constantly buzzing with students sharing theories, debating character decisions, and asking about the next chapter. The shared experience of a thrilling novel has given our students a social, cultural reason to read, proving that literature can be relevant and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nThis enthusiasm is directly translating into growth in skills essential for the Florida ELA standards. Our curriculum requires students to cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis, and The Maze Runner provides the perfect laboratory for this. The complex, mysterious plot forces students to make logical inferences and predictions about the Glade and the characters' intentions. We are using the book to analyze the author's craft, discussing how Dashner manipulates pacing, suspense, and diction to build tension—a skill that moves beyond simple comprehension into sophisticated literary analysis. By studying this highly engaging text, students are learning the mechanics of storytelling and suspense, which improves their ability to analyze any complex work of literature, from modern fantasy to classic texts.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, your gift has directly impacted our reluctant readers. We've seen students who typically rush through assignments and avoid our library now actively choose to spend free time reading. The popularity of the title validates their effort and builds reading confidence. They are proving to themselves that they can successfully read a full-length novel and participate meaningfully in complex class discussions. By providing a text they genuinely want to read, you haven't just satisfied a requirement; you have provided the crucial spark that will motivate them to seek out other books and become lifelong learners.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this incredible adventure possible for our ninth graders. Your investment is igniting a passion for reading that will serve them long after they leave the maze of high school.","fullyFundedDate":1746786099870,"projectUrl":"project/run-in-read-on-fueling-a-love-of-books/9299660/","projectTitle":"Run In, Read On: Fueling a Love of Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shakin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931223"},{"teacherId":9931223,"projectId":9250478,"letterContent":"It is with profound gratitude that I write to thank you for your generous donation to our DonorsChoose project, which provided our ninth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) classroom with a crucial collection of new, durable books!
