Their eyes lit up as they discovered the bubbles, sensory materials, chalk, fishing set, and T-ball equipment. For my little learners, these may seem like simple toys and activities, but they have opened the door to so many meaningful learning opportunities.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments has been using the bubble machine during outdoor play. Watching my students chase, pop, point to, and reach for the bubbles has created so many opportunities for communication and connection. Some students use words, gestures, or signs to ask for \"more,\" while others show their excitement through eye contact, pointing, or simply sharing the experience with their teachers and friends. Seeing a child who may struggle to communicate become so motivated to interact is truly special.\r\n\r\nOur sensory bins have also become a favorite part of our outdoor learning. Students scoop, dig, pour, and explore different textures while strengthening their fine motor skills and practicing sensory regulation. The chalk, fishing activities, and T-ball equipment give us even more ways to practice coordination, following directions, turn-taking, problem-solving, and social interaction, all while allowing my students to learn through something they naturally love: play.\r\n\r\nThese materials have made such a difference in my teaching. They have allowed me to take learning beyond the classroom walls and create hands-on experiences that are accessible and meaningful for children with developmental delays. I have been able to turn moments of play into opportunities for communication, independence, motor development, and building relationships with peers.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on these experiences by encouraging my students to become more independent and intentional during outdoor play. We will continue practicing communication, sharing, taking turns, following directions, and exploring new ways to use our materials together.\r\n\r\nTo every donor who supported this project, thank you from the bottom of my heart. My students are using the magnetic letters to practice letter recognition, identify the letters in their names, and begin building simple CVC words. The stand-up board has created an interactive space where they can move, collaborate, and stay engaged longer.
