They now have the opportunity to experience science in a hands-on way by observing objects up close, making observations, asking questions, and thinking like real scientists. Instead of only reading about scientific concepts, they can investigate and discover things for themselves.\r\nThe STEM games have also brought excitement into our classroom while encouraging students to problem-solve, think critically, collaborate, and learn through play. The cushions and rug have helped us create a comfortable learning space where students can work independently, collaborate with classmates, read, or participate in small-group activities.\r\nIt has been wonderful seeing my students excited to use these new materials. Your generosity has provided them with learning experiences that I would not have been able to provide on my own. They loved seeing the beads and immediately started talking about the personalized necklaces they could earn as they reached their reading goals. It was exciting to see how something so simple could make their reading progress feel like an accomplishment worth celebrating.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the resources during our daily reading, writing, science, and art activities. Students are using the workbooks for additional practice and enrichment, while the drawing and craft materials give them opportunities to demonstrate their learning creatively. Our reading motivation program has also become a fun way to encourage students to set goals, track their progress, and celebrate their accomplishments. Students are proud to see their necklaces grow as they meet their reading goals!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building strong reading habits while connecting our lessons across subjects. Students will be working with informational texts, responding to what they read through writing and art, and using evidence to explain their thinking in science. We will continue using the reading goals and bead necklaces throughout the year to encourage perseverance and celebrate growth. They immediately noticed the cozy reading area, greenery, games, and flexible learning materials, and they were eager to explore everything. The space has become a place where students feel comfortable learning, collaborating, and taking ownership of their classroom. One of their favorite moments has been choosing a comfortable spot to read or work with a partner using the clipboards and new materials.\r\n\r\nWe have already started putting the resources to use during our reading and STEM activities. Students recently worked in small groups to discuss a reading passage and use strategies to determine the main idea and supporting details. Afterward, they rotated through collaborative activities and strategy games, where they practiced communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. It has been wonderful to see students naturally use the space and resources to work together while still being responsible for their own learning.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building these skills through our current reading and science lessons. Students will be working in groups to read informational texts, discuss what they learn, and use evidence to support their thinking. We will also continue incorporating STEM challenges and strategy games as opportunities for students to practice perseverance, critical thinking, and collaboration.
