Our students have been working on their grocery store theme. The shopping carts, checkout, costume and food items have all been instrumental. Students got to go shopping and they got to play different roles. Some were janitors so the cleaning station donated has been instrumental to fulfill their role. Some students worked in the bakery and they got to wear the chef's outfit and use the cupcake, and cookie making stations to make their roles come to life. They also got practice in fine motor cutting the different wooden breads that were donated. We had students who were working in the deli and got to make sandwiches with the sandwich making kit, and pizza kit. We had produce workers who got a lot of practice in fine motor cutting the wooden toy fruits and vegetables. The checkout station and shopping carts made the whole study come to life.\r\n Next we will be learning about food groups. All the wooden food groups that were donated will be great for introducing and prepping recipes for healthy meals. They've had loads of fun putting their cookie, pizza, cupcake, hamburger and sandwich orders in. They got to learn about flavors, and toppings. The icecream station was another big hit. Young children learn through play and take the concreate learning later into abstract learning in the upper grades. This donation has made for so many lessons on money management, department store organization, different jobs. They got to practice language when they were playing different roles. \r\n The students were really excited when they saw all the new materials.
