We used these resources during our dog shark dissection unit, where students worked collaboratively to examine external and internal anatomy and connect structure to function. Having the correct tools allowed students to practice real laboratory techniques, follow safety procedures, and approach the dissection with confidence and care—just like real scientists.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. Many were amazed to have access to professional-grade equipment and took the responsibility seriously, especially when putting on their goggles and handling the instruments. For several students, this was their first true lab experience, and you could see their curiosity spark as they realized science was no longer just something in a textbook—it was right in front of them, in their hands.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will use what they learned from this dissection to deepen their understanding of comparative anatomy and evolutionary adaptations. They are currently applying their observations to lab reports, diagrams, and discussions that compare shark anatomy to other vertebrates. These resources will continue to support future labs and lessons, ensuring that many more students have the opportunity to learn through meaningful, hands-on science experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1763607094585,"projectUrl":"project/making-waves-in-marine-science-lab-sup/9649342/","projectTitle":"\"Making Waves in Marine Science: Lab Supplies for Learning\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9786915_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727794715606","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9786915"},{"teacherId":8004622,"projectId":10012623,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project Stirring Up Success! In our classroom, the smartwatch is used to help students check the time independently, follow visual timers for tasks, track movement during physical activity, and practice responding to reminders for transitions, hydration, and breaks. These features support students in learning how to manage their day with less adult prompting and more personal responsibility.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students was realizing the smartwatch could help them make decisions on their own. Students were eager to explore the timer, step tracker, and activity reminders, and many quickly began checking the watch to see how long they had been working or when it was time to move on to the next activity. For students who struggle with abstract concepts like time, seeing it displayed in a clear, interactive way has been incredibly empowering.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with this technology. One student who often relies on verbal reminders now independently checks the watch to transition between tasks, while another is highly motivated by tracking steps and setting personal movement goals. Students have already begun using kitchen tools and aprons to prepare simple meals together, learning how to follow recipes, share responsibilities, and clean up as a team. These moments have sparked confidence and pride as students realize they are capable of meaningful independence.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were excited and eager to get started. Many immediately asked when they could cook, clean, or begin working on projects for our student-run business. The sublimation tumblers, coasters, and crafting tools have been especially motivating, as students design and create products they can be proud of while practicing customer service, money handling, and job readiness skills. Even the organizational tools, lighting, and calming elements have made a difference—students take greater ownership of the space and feel proud to learn in an environment that reflects their growth and potential.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our next steps include expanding our student-run enterprise, continuing structured cooking and home-maintenance lessons, and strengthening personal care routines using hygiene kits and grooming tools. They're also strengthening their argumentation skills as we connect the play's jury deliberations to the art of persuasive reasoning in real life.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active, collaborative experience. Students read scenes aloud in small groups, take on roles, and annotate the text to uncover how Rose builds conflict and resolution. The energy and focus in the room during these sessions have been incredible.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to connect with reading have found their voices through this play.
