Your generous gift of \"The Boxcar Children\" by Gertrude Chandler Warner to each student in my class brought a new excitement for reading as I have never seen. Most of my students had never held a chapter book in their hands, let alone have the joy of taking the book home to read with their parents. \r\n\r\n Each morning, we would read a chapter from the book and connect literary element skills with words, sentences, and paragraphs. My students became experts in summarizing chapters and identifying similes and metaphors.\r\n\r\n When we completed reading the book, we created a \"Tissue Box\" book report in class. The students enjoyed illustrating, summarizing, and reflecting on their favorite part of the book. The sound of joy and laughter filled my classroom.
