They began by planting seeds in cups filled with soil, learning about germination and the importance of caring for young plants. Once the seedlings were ready, the class worked together to build and set up raised plant beds, using kneeling pads, gloves, and small garden utensils to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. This process taught them teamwork and responsibility while fostering an appreciation for nature.\r\n\r\nTo make the garden a true butterfly habitat, students planted milkweed seeds, a vital food source for monarch butterflies. They also observed live baby caterpillars in a special habitat and used a feeder to support their growth. Each child kept a journal to document observations about the butterfly life cycle, guided by the books How to Raise Monarch Butterflies and Save the Butterflies. Through this project, students not only learned science concepts but also developed a sense of stewardship for the environment. The butterfly garden has become a living classroom that inspires curiosity and care for our planet.","fullyFundedDate":1758830903722,"projectUrl":"project/from-caterpillars-to-butterflies-hands-/9720737/","projectTitle":"From Caterpillars to Butterflies: Hands-On Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pineda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2095529"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127368","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":412,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":93,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":85.2,"schoolId":127368,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Andrea Castillo Prep Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Andrea Castillo Prep Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/andrea-castillo-prep-k-8/127368"}
