As the boxes came in they were eager to see what materials arrived each day. If I hadn't unpacked the box yet they would beg me to show them what's in it. Their enthusiasm over a bag of buttons really surprised me the most. Some of the materials were completely new to them. Others (like the watercolor paints) are familiar but far better quality than they are used to. \r\n\r\nFor our first project we studied how movie posters are used to market movies. We looked at a variety of movie posters and learned what components are commonly included to entice moviegoers to buy a ticket. We threw in a literary twist and made posters to advertise favorite books. Thanks to our Donors Choose items student had a variety of media to work with. They came up with unique collaborations to encourage kids all over the school to get reading. \r\n\r\nOur next adventure will be sewing. Some students can't wait to try their hand at embroidery. Others are planning on sewing pillows. We have a wealth of materials available through grant so each learner has the ability to choose their project of interest. Students this age are highly motivated by having choice in their activities. Thanks to these materials they can pick projects they are interested in!\r\n\r\nThese materials would have been out of reach for our class without the generosity of our donors.
