Thank you for donating to our project, \"All the Small Things.\" It really takes so much for a classroom to feel welcoming and organized; your donation helped make that happen in our Tampa, FL classroom. Many of my students come to school hungry, tired, stressed, or without basics. Many families at our school are busy working multiple jobs for long hours just to survive. Whether their child has highlighters or pencils is often not the priority. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch, but sometimes students arrive late or just need a little more sustenance. I've used the snacks you donated to fill hungry bellies so that students can focus on their education, not their hunger. Your donation alleviates this added stress for the students, their caretakers, and myself. Thank you. \r\n\r\nThe biggest budget items for this project were the standing desk and the floor cushions. Students love using the floor cushions to make their desks more comfortable, and, when they are working, many like to find a quiet place on the floor to do their assignments. It's just one small way that students feel at home and make the space their own. The standing desk allows me to circulate around the classroom while giving instructions or teaching new material. This helps keep unwanted behaviors at bay. Just knowing that Mrs. Watson is heading their way quiets those talkers and makes the daydreamers perk up. When I don't have to stop instruction to correct behaviors, more time is dedicated to what matters. Thank you.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, we were using paper towels to erase our whiteboard responses for review games. Now, since you helped purchase mini-whiteboard erasers we don't have to waste paper and can help the environment! We were also using crayons and colored pencils to \"highlight\" our writing responses. This usually ended with me not being able to read their writing at all. Thank you for giving us highlighters so that students can code their writing, and so that I can actually grade them! Before your donation, we had no pencil sharpeners or extra pencils. Now students can just get up and use the ones I purchased with your donation instead of interrupting the class in search of someone who has a pencil or sharpener. Imagine how crazy this made me before! \r\n\r\nEach and every item on this project has helped our classroom thrive. No longer do students need to stop what they are doing for supplies. They feel safer and more welcomed because of you.
