When the students first saw the new chessboards, their excitement was immediate. Their faces lit up with excitement, and the energy was contagious. What may look like simple game boards have become powerful tools for confidence, connection, and growth. The addition of these resources has elevated the professionalism and structure of our club meetings and tournaments, and the positive energy has spread throughout the school.\r\n\r\nSince receiving these resources, the Crestwood Champions Chess Club has grown from approximately 16 students to 25, and now includes both 4th and 5th graders, with 3rd grade joining this spring. We have seen students who were once hesitant begin to take risks, think critically, and believe in themselves. Data from this year shows a nine-point increase in overall self-efficacy among our 4th-grade chess club students, and 87% of participants demonstrated growth in Math. But beyond the numbers, we see students staying after school with purpose, encouraging one another, developing resilience, and building community and lasting connections with every match played.\r\n\r\nThis spring, we are launching an expanded semester that includes additional grade levels, a structured multi-week tournament series, and continued refinement of instruction (such as digital game play, speed chess, and recording sessions where students can record games and watch back to analyze their moves and discuss the decisions behind them). By the end of the 2026 school year, grades 3–5 will be fully included, and we have a two-year vision to expand to all grade levels by 2028. Your gift has done more than provide chessboards. It has sparked a movement of critical thinking, confidence, and community at Crestwood. Thank you for investing in our students today and in the many students who will benefit in the years ahead.","fullyFundedDate":1763056669517,"projectUrl":"project/queen-to-f7-checkmate-building-strong/9870826/","projectTitle":"Queen to F7, Checkmate!
