Because of you, our students have been able to use materials that help them organize their thinking and schoolwork. They also practiced exploring scientific topics through hands on collaboration. The students were very excited to see the materials and even more excited to know that they will be able to keep most of them. (2nd-5th graders will be able to keep their binders and contents to use next year.) Students will continue to use their supplies and add more schoolwork to their binders. The fourth graders used the graph paper to design their future home. \r\n Kindergarteners developed their investigation skills by observing different types of motion using discovery tubes. They held each tube, turned them upside down, and decided how the contents moved. The \"speed\" and \"friction\" tubes contained little balls, and the \"flow\" tube contained sand. After thinking, the kindergarteners wrote down words that described the motion they saw. A couple of them used complete sentences. Second grade developed categorizing skills by sorting plants based on fruit/vegetable, grows above the ground or under, color, etc. This activity created good conversations based on what the student already knew about plants and engaged the student even more when he learned which vegetables grow under the ground. \r\n Third and fourth graders learned how to organize their school materials using an AVID format. They each had a choice between a red, blue, purple, or green binder. Students decorated their binders with an AVID focus of learning or their interest. They placed the dividers, a pencil pouch, the index cards, post it notes, sheet protectors, and the graph paper inside their binders. When it was time to complete a task, students used the materials in their binders to begin. They took notes on what they were reading on their post it notes. \r\n The laminator allowed me to preserve the materials the student utilized. During one activity, the third graders organized a number of college and university pennants in alphabetical order. All of the products you donated towards helps our AVID students become college and career ready!","fullyFundedDate":1765991696356,"projectUrl":"project/high-achieving-young-minds/9889672/","projectTitle":"High Achieving Young Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1415052_orig.png?crop=108,108,x0,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762879446770","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1415052"},{"teacherId":2304056,"projectId":9764933,"letterContent":"I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donations to my \"Positive Paws\" project. Their eyes lit up, smiles spread across their faces, and an immediate sense of excitement filled the space.
