Your generosity is helping us create the Otterly Bookish Café, a warm and inviting space where students and their families can discover the joy of reading together. Our new bilingual books in English and Spanish, as well as English and Haitian Creole, help celebrate the many languages spoken in our school community while making reading more accessible to our English Language Learners and their families.\r\n\r\nOur students and families are beginning to experience how special reading can be when it is shared in a comfortable, welcoming environment. During our first Otterly Bookish Café morning, kindergarten through second-grade students and their families had the opportunity to explore books, read together, and enjoy quality time surrounded by stories. It was wonderful to create an opportunity for families to connect with their children through books, regardless of the language they speak at home. Seeing families come together to share stories reminds us that literacy is a partnership between school and home.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue growing the café into a space where even more families can experience the joy of reading. We are planning another family reading morning for third- through fifth-grade students and their families, and we hope to make the café a regular opportunity for family engagement.
