This space included a large area rug, toys, books, and age appropriate manipulatives for the children. This space was very important to our teen mothers because it gave them a safe space and a designated time to meet with their peers in the same situation as them. They truly enjoyed it. We also used it for guest speakers to model reading children's books out loud to a group. This was especially helpful since many of our moms were too shy to even read allowed to their own children. \r\nUnfortunately, that summer our area of the school suffered an outbreak of mold. The AICE Thinking Skills heavily involve analysis and strategic planning, so being able to implement Chess into the curriculum is vital to be successful in this class. Golden Gate High School in Naples, FL is a Title 1 school with the majority of our students being first generation citizens. \r\n\r\nThe idea that I could offer the most basic school supplies to my students came to me a few years ago, but until I came across Donor's Choose, I struggled with the idea of how to fund it. To say the \"Help Yourself\" station has been impactful would be an understatement. There is a famous poem called \"Cause I Aint Got a Pencil\", about a young student who struggles to simply get dressed and out of the house, just to get scolded by his teacher about not having a pencil. That poem inspired me to create this guilt free, \"Help Yourself\" station for students who may not have the convenience of obtaining basic supplies.\r\n\r\nMy students appreciate the supplies they have available to them and it would not be possible without the generosity of the donors behind this project.","fullyFundedDate":1758160004709,"projectUrl":"project/guilt-free-help-yourself-school-supply/9718254/","projectTitle":"Guilt Free \"Help Yourself\" School Supply Station","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9740447"},{"teacherId":10188428,"projectId":9622423,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support! My students and I have been putting our new classroom resources to great use.\r\n\r\nThe very first day the materials arrived, my students lit up. Many of them immediately reached for the dry erase boards and markers they couldn't wait to try them out. During our first lesson with the boards, I watched students eagerly work through math problems, erase, retry, and collaborate with each other. It created an energy in the room that made learning feel hands-on, low pressure, and fun. One student even said, \"I feel more confident showing my work now!\"\r\n\r\nThe pencils and erasers you provided have also been such an important part of our daily routine. For many students, having reliable writing tools means they can stay focused and confident, without the stress of not having what they need. And the extra calculators have been a lifesaver students can borrow one without hesitation, which keeps our lessons moving and ensures everyone can participate fully.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're using these materials in a multi-step problem solving unit. With the help of the dry erase boards, students are learning how to show their work clearly, revise their thinking, and explain their reasoning to classmates. \r\n\r\nYour contribution didn't just supply materials it created opportunities.
