When my students first received the materials, especially the bookbinding kits and high-quality paper, their excitement was immediate. Many had never created something so tangible and professional before. As they began writing and illustrating their bilingual children's books, I saw a shift. Students took pride in every detail, from their word choice in both English and Spanish to the care they put into each illustration. One particularly special moment was watching a group of students revise their stories multiple times, not because it was required, but because they wanted their future young readers to feel inspired and understood.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the materials to complete and bind our books, and the results are incredible. Students are not only practicing language skills, but also developing craftsmanship, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility. They know their work will be shared beyond our classroom, which has raised the level of engagement and meaning. For many of my students, especially those with Hispanic heritage, this project has become a way to celebrate their identity. For others, it is an opportunity to connect with a new culture in a meaningful, authentic way.\r\n\r\nThe next step is the most exciting. Students plan to visit a local elementary school to read their books aloud and donate them to the classroom library. They are already preparing how to present their stories with confidence and kindness. This experience will allow them to step into leadership roles and see firsthand the impact of their work. Thanks to your support, this project has gone far beyond academics. It has created a bridge between students, cultures, and our community.","fullyFundedDate":1749750919040,"projectUrl":"project/librolink-a-bilingual-community-service/9298322/","projectTitle":"LibroLink: A Bilingual Community Service Project of Stories and Kindness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. ZACHARY","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8548330_orig.jpg?crop=1128,1128,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1658898057583","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8548330"},{"teacherId":9682501,"projectId":9788780,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation that helped to fund my project. The project will give students the chance to design heartfelt cards, decorate event spaces, and prepare personalized tokens of appreciation, all while practicing their language skills and embracing cultural expression.\r\n\r\nEven though the celebration is planned for next year, students were thrilled when the materials arrived. They've already begun brainstorming ideas and planning how to make the event truly special. This project has inspired conversations around gratitude, empathy, and the importance of community service.
