The Spinner will be a tool to get students excited about the processes of balancing a checkbook. The different pie pieces will represent good and bad transactions, errors in favor or against a patron. The spinner will adjust to the section we learn about such as school loans, car loans, mortgages, saving for retirement. This tool will help throw twists and turns in selecting the right car loan, insurance, rate, and length of a loan to fit their budget. The idea is to let them experience the unexpected good and bad while learning the skills to manage their finances. This course is to help them prepare for the navigation of financial decisions that will impact their credit scores and their financial well-being. Students will spin the wheel and obtain a credit score and through the year that score will adjust as they submit assignments on time, late, or not at all. Points can be earned and lost related to their credit score which then determines what loans they might or might not qualify for. The purpose is to prepare students with the ability to make sound financial decisions by making mistakes and learning from those mistakes in the classroom. Students should feel confident in making choices about credit cards, student loans, car loans, choosing a bank, a mortgage, and the confidence and understanding of a budget. The true test is not within the walls of the high school but rather the knowledge base to meet financial needs, challenges, and successes in managing financial independence.
