Students used ribbons, flying discs, hula hoops, and a colorful parachute during our outdoor learning activities. With the new resources, students were able to complete the final chapters of the book and rotate through a variety of Wonka‑themed educational games and activities. One especially memorable moment was watching the class enjoy their individual cups of hot cocoa while working—something that felt extra special since the temperatures were well below normal for the season. The resources helped transform our room into a fully decorated Wonka‑inspired space, and it truly brought the story to life for students.\r\n\r\nThe excitement on their faces when they walked into the fully decorated classroom was priceless. Many of them gasped, pointed things out to each other, and couldn't wait to explore every station. The hot cocoa was an added treat that made the experience feel magical and immersive.\r\n\r\nAlthough our Wonka thematic unit has come to an end, we're already in the planning stages for another thematic unit based on a child‑friendly book. The success of Wonka Day has energized the class, and they're eager to dive into a new story-filled adventure. Our next steps include selecting the next book, preparing hands‑on activities, and continuing to use our new materials to enrich literacy learning in creative, engaging ways.","fullyFundedDate":1766268353258,"projectUrl":"project/the-wonka-experience/9910022/","projectTitle":"The Wonka Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8079701_orig.jpg?crop=2714,2714,x1102,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1645833708015","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8079701"},{"teacherId":1405090,"projectId":9948567,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our Imagination Engineers: A Chocolate Factory STEM Lab. Because of your generosity, my students were able to experience learning in a hands-on and meaningful way that connected science, engineering, and literature. When students first saw the materials and stations, their excitement was immediate. They were curious, engaged, and eager to explore, making connections to our reading of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory while asking thoughtful questions.\r\nUsing the new resources, students rotated through STEM stations where they observed chocolate melting, explored cause-and-effect through fizzy reactions, and designed creative solutions inspired by the story. Students worked collaboratively as \"imagination engineers,\" sharing observations, making predictions, and explaining their thinking. These activities increased engagement across grade levels and supported students who learn best through hands-on experiences.\r\nBecause of this project, students are continuing to use scientific vocabulary, ask deeper questions, and apply engineering thinking during future lessons and discussions. The Bee-Bot and Blue-Bot have already sparked curiosity and boosted confidence in problem-solving and technology.\r\n\r\nWe launched our CODE QUEENS initiative for girls in grades 3–5, and these tools allowed students to not just \"play\" with technology, but to understand programming concepts like sequencing, debugging, and logical thinking. Several students who were previously hesitant to engage in STEM activities came alive while collaborating to program robots through designed paths. One student said, \"I didn't know coding could be like a puzzle I get to solve with friends!\"\r\n\r\nI've also been able to introduce foundational coding concepts during our weekly media specials, creating small centers where students rotate between digital and tactile tech tasks.
