We have been focusing on examples of conflict and cooperation throughout Sub Saharan Africa's history and have landed on apartheid in South Africa as an example of conflict. Trevor was born right before the end of apartheid. His first hand account of what apartheid looks like and the civil wars that followed have been very impactful for students. It is one thing to hear a dictionary definition of apartheid, it is another thing entirely to hear first hand accounts from a boy close to their own age at the time. I am confident my students will not soon forget Trevor's stories and experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1760830501032,"projectUrl":"project/literature-and-rich-resources-for-the-ge/9823410/","projectTitle":"Literature and Rich Resources for the Geography Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCune","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10310363_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y191&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760634150401","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10310363"},{"teacherId":10316254,"projectId":9839105,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. Because of you, my students now have access to materials that are making a difference in our learning every day just by being a way to make activities different.\r\n\r\nWe are using these new resources during our science investigations, where students are exploring how heat and temperature change in different cup systems. The students were able to use the sleeves and markers to learn about heat and temperature. They enjoyed highlighting important information as well as summarizing procedures to follow to collect data on temperature change in cups. The opportunity to use erasable markers rather than pencil was novel to them. They were able to work in partners and small group to find information on how heat moves. Students use the markers to write, revise, and annotate text on whiteboard surfaces, which has encouraged them to take risks with writing and focus on improving their ideas rather than worrying about mistakes. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were excited. They love the chairs. They use them for small group work as well as independent reading time. I found it especially funny that they all wanted to read quietly using those chair under the desks and tables. That sense of excitement carried directly into deeper engagement and focus during our lessons. They also add some color to the room. \r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, they are strengthening both their science understanding and their academic language skills. These resources will continue to support hands-on, meaningful learning for many students to come.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and helping make our classroom a place where curiosity, excitement, and learning thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1760894726006,"projectUrl":"project/giving-students-a-space-to-read/9839105/","projectTitle":"Giving Students a Space to Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hamilton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10316254"},{"teacherId":6608581,"projectId":9834152,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating this money to help buy items for my classroom. My students were BEYOND excited to see all of the new books we now have for our classroom library. They couldn't wait to check them out and add them to their reading logs. The smiles that came across their faces and hearing them brag about our class having these fun books made this donation even better. I was also excited to see how thrilled they were to start reading and almost didn't want to put their books down to do their other school work. \r\n\r\nWe are starting a reading time unit later this year and the clocks will be an incredible addition to the lessons to give them real hands on practice for their problems. All the children in my class have benefitted from your donations.\r\n\r\nIt is with great gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your generosity and support of \"Learning Centers to Light up the Science of Reading\"! With the funding of literacy activities all children in the class have been impacted in a positive way. \r\n\r\nThe activities have been used for reading groups to increase motivation while making differentiation that supports The Science of Reading curriculum we are using more meaningful. The children cannot wait to come to group time. They work hard and learning has increased. \r\n\r\nAnother added benefit has been the positive impact the materials have had during independent Choice time. Children are using the familiar materials for independent practice. The excitement is contagious and children are actively engaged in learning. The best part is that students are working together teaching and learning with each other. This learning is aligned with the skills being taught and increased student learning has been seen in assessments.
