The classroom carpet is a focal point in my classroom. We begin each day by meeting on the carpet for our morning meeting. We greet each other and read my morning message. This sets the tone for our day together. My students love to join me on the carpet to listen to stories and to solve math problems on their whiteboards. While I am working with small groups, students participate in literacy centers. One of the center groups meets on the carpet. Gathering students around me on the carpet builds, classroom community, increases student engagement and allows me to check for understanding easily as all students are close to me. The carpet we currently have is worn and too small for all students to sit on comfortably. I am seeking a new carpet so that all students will have space to sit for whole group learning activities, centers and our morning meetings. Thank you for considering supporting my project!
