We are using the new resources daily to meet students' sensory needs, support food insecurity, and encourage artistic expression. Emotional awareness posters help students identify and communicate how they're feeling, snacks and tissues ensure basic needs are met so learning can stay focused (especially during this killer flu season!), and art supplies like markers give students a creative outlet to process what they read and discuss, such as creating alternate book covers for 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' One especially meaningful moment was when students used the Prince Escalus costume to act out the opening scene of Romeo and Juliet. Watching them step into the role, speak Shakespeare's language with confidence, and collaborate with their peers showed just how powerful hands-on learning can be.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, the excitement was immediate and contagious. Students gathered around as we opened each one, reacting with genuine joy and curiosity at every new item. The costumes sparked laughter and imagination, the snacks brought relief and gratitude, and the sensory and emotional-support materials helped students feel seen and cared for. It was clear that these resources sent a strong message: this classroom is a safe, supportive place where their needs and interests matter.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these materials will be essential as I begin teaching a new honors class and work to help students feel comfortable and secure enough to take academic risks. Our next steps include expanding literacy skills through dramatic readings, performance-based activities, and creative projects that make complex texts more accessible and engaging. Because of you, my students are not only learning—they are building confidence, empathy, and a genuine love for reading and self-expression. Thank you for giving them that opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1760844506251,"projectUrl":"project/building-secure-learners-on-the-path-to/9837091/","projectTitle":"Building Secure Learners on the Path to Literacy in ELA","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9348257_orig.jpg?crop=560,560,x0,y93&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724331399675","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9348257"},{"teacherId":9988216,"projectId":9219275,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation. Without your support, our cultural community project would not have been possible. The goal of the project was to celebrate culture through creativity and connection. With the new supplies, students were able to design activities from various countries that represented important aspects of Hispanic art and traditions. The materials helped to bring to life a cherished tradition from that country and gave everyone a hands-on way to celebrate their heritage and identity. Our students created over 20 arts and crafts activities! Some of the activities included: hieroglyphic rock painting from the Tainos, making pinch pots and decorating it with markers, Panamenian molas, textile coloring, day of the dead skull decorations, yarn art, painting sun clays, decorating book marks and more! \r\n\r\nThe high school took the lead by planning and creating art activities inspired by various cultures. When the students saw the supplies, they used that as inspiration to base their craft activity about. The students worked together to research the meaning and history behind each craft, ensuring that the activities reflected artistic ability and cultural pride. This preparation not only deepened their understanding of Hispanic Traditions but also built their leadership and collaboration skills. \r\n\r\nThe most exciting part of the project was when the high school students shared the creations with the children from the community. The students stayed late after school to set up the tables and then came in early the next day to continue to set up. During the community event, the students guided children at each of their table, teaching them about the culture that inspired the craft. The children were extremely engaged and eager to go from table to table taking their time making their handmade art pieces. \r\n\r\nThanks to this event, it was extremely rewarding to see an exchange of knowledge and culture between the high school students and children from the community. The cultural activities showed how art can bring people together and strengthen community pride.","fullyFundedDate":1753903010685,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-culture-to-life/9219275/","projectTitle":"Bringing Culture to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Beaver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9988216"},{"teacherId":9915255,"projectId":9095379,"letterContent":"We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous sponsorship.
