The fruits, vegetables, cashier set, ice cream toys, and other food play materials have brought so much excitement and joy into our classroom. From the moment the students saw the new resources, they were eager to explore, play, and communicate with one another using their new vocabulary and imagination.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the materials during our dramatic play, role-play conversations, and hands-on language activities. The students especially love pretending to shop at a grocery store, take customer orders, and work as cashiers or restaurant owners. These activities have helped them practice speaking, cooperation, problem-solving, counting, and real-life communication skills in a meaningful and engaging way. One of the most exciting moments was seeing students confidently using Greek vocabulary while \"buying\" fruits and vegetables and serving ice cream to their classmates during our classroom market activity.\r\n\r\nThese materials continue to support our current lessons about food, healthy eating, daily life, and community roles. Moving forward, students will use the toys for storytelling, collaborative projects, and interactive speaking activities connected to our Greek language and CLIL units. They are starting to identify sight words in each and discuss main characters. \r\n\r\nThey enjoy the materials especially when I explain they were donated to us to use and take care of. They were grateful for the use of more items especially books as I can now rotate books out every so often that I have more. \r\n\r\nNext steps for the students are to integrate them more with the items we were donated, they love the addition of the stools so they don't have to bring their chairs over to the table every time for small groups. I don't think there is a book that hasn't been read by multiple students at this point. \r\n\r\nThe reading games and comprehension scripts have been a fantastic addition to my small groups. It is something that is simple enough for second graders to do with minimal supervision, while also learning and having fun! \r\n\r\nMy personal favorite donation is either the \"cool kids read books\" banner or the organizers! I love having a neat and orderly classroom, but with 7&8 year olds, that can be difficult! These tools help them remember where to put everything as well as easily clean. My students are fascinated by the illustrations and enjoy exploring them each time we open the books, discovering new myths and heroes. The material is engaging, and they often spend extra time discussing what they see and read. At the same time, I use the texts and vocabulary to support our language learning, helping students build reading comprehension and expand their Greek vocabulary.\r\n\r\nStudents were immediately excited and curious to see what would happen next in the stories. The illustrations are very powerful and capture their attention right away. Many students are especially enthusiastic about acting out scenes from the myths or taking on the roles of different characters.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to deepen students' engagement with reading and inspire them to become writers themselves. The file organizer helps students keep their portfolios of understanding organized so they can easily access their work and reflect on their learning. The table is also helpful for organizing project materials and creating a space where students can collaborate more effectively during group activities.\r\n\r\nStudents responded very positively when they saw the new materials. They were excited and eager to begin using them right away. Several students commented on how nice it was to have new tools to support their learning, and it was clear that they felt valued knowing that people care about their classroom experience. The new materials have helped create a more engaging and supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps in the classroom will focus on learning about ecology. Students will explore ecosystems and examine how humans are impacting species and environments around the world. Through discussions, activities, and projects, students will begin to understand the connections between living things and consider ways people can help protect and support biodiversity.","fullyFundedDate":1762216629200,"projectUrl":"project/improving-science-literacy/9832503/","projectTitle":"Improving Science Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Malenfant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10313575_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y453&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761129641726","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10313575"},{"teacherId":10038004,"projectId":9816487,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, Growing Strong Readers Through Agricultural Literacy. My students are getting wonderful use out off our new resources such as the reading guide book marks and dictionaries. \r\nWe use the dictionaries more often as we are going over our novel and for every sections n we use the dictionaries to find the definition for vocabulary. It's fun to watch them work together to find the definitions the old fashioned way, and provides them with a certain sense of pride after they accomplish this. \r\nThe reading guides have been helpful for my students that have a hard time keeping up, this lets them feel more confident in their reading skills and helps them differentiate the different lines from the book, some that were using it in the beginning have grown the confidence that they no longer need them and that means leaps and bounds not only to them but to myself as well! \r\nOnce I showed the students the materials students got excited about the fidgets and the line guides but there were some mixed feelings about the dictionaries. But once the students got the hang of how to properly use a dictionary they have all openly told me how much they enjoy this over the old way of doing vocabulary. \r\nAs of right now, we are working on our first novel of the year and have already gotten halfway through, once we are done with this we have a fun unit of poetry, and then Non-fiction stories which the dictionaries will come in ilhandy for! Finally we will end the year with our final novel. \r\nI cannot thank you enough for the generosity you have graced me with, as a teacher who enjoys providing theirs students with a helping had but also teaching independence, you have provided 6th graders, who at the age want us to prove they are independent, a chance to do so.","fullyFundedDate":1760901014974,"projectUrl":"project/promote-literacy-in-the-6th-grade/9843015/","projectTitle":"Promote Literacy in the 6th Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kovack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10318937"},{"teacherId":5610104,"projectId":9836976,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for these incredible classroom literacy resources! The new books and flexible seating have transformed both how students learn and how they feel in the classroom. During our daily literacy block, students choose seating that best supports their learning—bean bags for independent reading, wobble stools for small-group discussions, and floor seating for partner work. One memorable moment occurred during a book club discussion when a student who is typically hesitant to participate confidently shared her thinking while seated comfortably in a floor chair, sparking a rich conversation among her peers. The diverse, high-interest books have increased student choice and ownership, leading to deeper engagement and more meaningful conversations about texts.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate and genuine. Students' eyes lit up as they explored the new seating options and eagerly flipped through the books, already discussing which ones they wanted to read first. Several students expressed that the classroom felt more welcoming and \"like a place where we want to learn.\" Their enthusiasm set the tone for a positive learning environment built on comfort, curiosity, and connection.\r\n\r\nStudents are currently using these resources as they engage in a reading response and reflection project focused on comprehension, voice, and perspective. They will select texts that resonate with them and respond through written reflections, discussions, and creative presentations. The flexible seating allows students to collaborate naturally and stay focused for longer periods of time.
