One of the most exciting moments happened during our small-group reading time, when some of my below level readers were actively engaged in learning phonics using our new letter/sound boards. I watched students who were once hesitant to participate, get excited to learn new skills. The resources have helped turn reading into something students look forward to, not something they rush through.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless. There were gasps, smiles, and lots of \"Can I use this one?\" Several students told me they were excited to take their reading skills \"to the next level,\" which was incredibly rewarding to hear.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps include diving deeper into comprehension strategies such as making inferences, summarizing, and citing evidence from the text. We will also dive deeper into hands on phonics with our special education students. During our 30 minute independent reading block, students are allowed to spread out around the room and find a comfy spot to get lost in the book of their choice. \r\n\r\nThe cushions we received as part of our project have been a huge hit, and those five spots each day are highly coveted! We've really enjoyed being able to add them to our classroom seating options, and they pair perfectly with the center activities we also received. Upon opening the boxes the students were jumping for joy to have a cushion chair to read their chapter books during independent reading time. \r\nFrom the day the cushion chairs were delivered, the students have been using them to read during our 30 minute reading time daily. One student told me that they didn't realize how quickly the time flies by when reading while using the cushion chair. Another student said, \"Mrs. Nichols, thank you so much for getting the cushion chairs for us. I am enjoying being able to relax on it and dive deep into my book.\" The cushion chairs are developing lifelong readers in the classroom to inspire the students to read daily. \r\nLastly, thank you for the donation of the figurative language game. The students were in their competitive mode when I introduced how to play the game.
