One especially memorable project involved researching a Spanish-speaking country and creating a colorful cultural display featuring its flag, landmarks, traditional clothing, food, and important celebrations. Students labeled their work in Spanish and proudly shared what they learned with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were thrilled! They immediately began discussing the colors they would use and the projects they hoped to create. Having access to color makes cultural images, maps, flags, vocabulary cards, and classroom displays more engaging and easier to understand. The coloring materials also give students a creative way to process new vocabulary, remember important details, and express their understanding. Even students who are sometimes hesitant to speak in class become more confident when they can first communicate their ideas through art and visual design.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use these materials for a project exploring holidays and traditions throughout the Spanish-speaking world. They will create illustrated vocabulary pages, cultural posters, and short presentations in Spanish comparing these traditions with their own. These resources will continue to make language and culture feel vivid, relevant, and exciting for my students. One especially memorable moment occurred when students worked in teams to plan and write a Spanish dialogue directly on the table. They were able to organize their ideas, correct one another's work, and revise their conversations together before presenting them to the class.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the table, they were incredibly excited and could not wait to use it! They immediately began asking if they could write on it and work there with their classmates. The table has made learning feel more engaging and inviting, while also giving students a comfortable space where they can share ideas, take academic risks, and learn from one another.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use the whiteboard table to prepare for an upcoming Spanish speaking project. One of my favorite moments has been watching students become excited to choose a book, explore new topics, and share what they are discovering with their classmates. Seeing students who may not always consider themselves \"readers\" become curious and eager to pick up a book is incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited to see what was inside and eager to begin using them. Their curiosity quickly turned into questions, conversations, and opportunities to learn. The resources have helped create a classroom environment where students can be more independent and take greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThese materials have also helped us create more organization and structure in our classroom. When students know where materials belong and have clear routines for using them, they are able to spend less time worrying about what to do and more time actually learning. This organization supports my students while also helping me create a classroom that runs more smoothly and intentionally.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our current lessons, my students will keep building their reading skills, exploring new books and ideas, and using hands-on resources to demonstrate what they know. The students love the cozy bean bag chairs, the use of headphones to listen to audiobooks, and access to a variety of books with different themes. Each day when students arrived in the classroom, they raced for a chance to sit in the cozy bean bag chairs. Students enjoyed reading the biographies of different historical figures and making connections to their own lives. \r\nThis school year, my co-teachers and I made independent reading a priority. We had designated days when we stopped instruction for the entire class to read. In addition to the books, the use of fidgets and bookmarks made a difference in my classroom. Having engaging bookmarks increased the students' use of them and ultimately increased independent reading in my classroom.
