The months of March and April were full of math and reading review, as we prepared for our state testing. The math games and the portable white board were so helpful for this! We used the portable white board several times each day! We were able to gather at the rug as a class, look at our math markers or writing exemplars, make observations, and record our observations. We were also able to work freely around the room doing this which allowed us so much flexibility!\r\n The math games we also amazing! We used the fractions and division games all the time! The students were all begging to take turns at working on these skills because the games are so fun!\r\n Finally, I wish I had recorded the students' reactions when we opened all of the new seating! They were so excited and begged to have them set up right away! They make our time in small group at the table so much better. MRFES artists explored the design process: brainstorming an idea through discussion and sketches, creating an armature, preparing the Celluclay and using it to create form. \r\nWe enjoyed building from the inside out to create our characters. Some students used the materials to make vessels-boats and submarines.\r\n\r\nThere was definitely a learning curve involved with this project. We experimented with how to build an armature and found that the wire, cardboard, newspaper and tape needed to be wrapped in tin foil to maintain the structural integrity when the Celluclay was added. We also learned how much water and kneading was required to make the Celluclay most effective. We liked how we could work in stages to make our pieces-some complicated forms needed several rounds of Celluclay application-drying in-between to allow parts to harden.
