My students are digital natives. They were born into a highly-digital world and are being raised in a society that relies more and more on technology. My students like their information fast and their communication faster. And while there are similarities between today's students and students of the past, their are differences in learning styles and learning needs that need to be addressed and provided to today's learner. Because of budget cuts faced by our district, there are some areas that fall short in meeting my students' unique needs. The desks, tables, and chairs in my classroom are remnants from a time when education was more linear (and more restrictive.) Most of the pieces are run-down, restrictive, uncomfortable and uninspiring. I would like to create a classroom learning environment that is more in tune with my students' unique learning styles, interests, and 21st Century needs. Flexible seating options will allow my students to better collaborate, focus, and grow/develop as individuals and as learners! These seats and seating options will be of value to all of my students (but will be especially beneficial to my unique learner population.)
