In the past we have used multiple short stories to enhance learning in this unit, however research has shown that students are less likely to read complete novels the older they get. Therefore we were hoping to get them to read as many complete novels both independently and as a class as we could this year in 6th grade.\r\n\r\nThat's where you came in. Thanks to you and your generous donation, we have started off this year with a bang. The first unit has been a success and our students have been able to identify character traits, track character growth, and determine the pressures that cause characters to behave in different ways together in a class novel. They then take that group work one step further and apply those skills to an independent novel that they are reading. \r\n\r\nNow, our students all have at least one story and two amazing characters that they all know and love and we can relate back to throughout the school year. This will give them a solid and common foundation as the year continues on. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donation! \r\n\r\nLove, \r\nThe SMS 6th Grade Reading Teachers!","fullyFundedDate":1755724876314,"projectUrl":"project/stargirl-class-set/9466887/","projectTitle":"Stargirl Class Set","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ewers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9039070_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707068900683","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9039070"},{"teacherId":3316113,"projectId":9182232,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom project. Because of you, we have received an ice machine that will be an invaluable resource for my students.\r\n\r\nStudying light and matter and thermal energy is a key part of our science curriculum. The new ice machine will allow us to conduct hands-on experiments, such as observing physical properties, phase changes and exploring the concept of heat transfer, in a way that wasn't possible before. My students are incredibly excited to use the machine and are already brainstorming new ways to incorporate it into their experiments.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only provided us with a fantastic piece of equipment but has also shown my students the power of community support. For many of my students, especially those with autism and intellectual disabilities, music provides a powerful way to express themselves when words are difficult.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the instruments in our morning meetings and during social-emotional learning time. One favorite activity is our \"rhythm circle,\" where each student gets a turn to create a beat and the rest of the group follows along. This has encouraged turn-taking, listening skills, and collaboration in a way that feels joyful rather than like \"work.\" One particularly special moment was when a student who is typically quiet led the group with a steady drumbeat, and the entire class joined in. It was a beautiful example of leadership and confidence shining through.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. These instruments are not only tools for learning—they're helping my students connect with each other, grow in confidence, and find their voices through music.","fullyFundedDate":1701196970602,"projectUrl":"project/making-music-in-our-life-skills-class/8039509/","projectTitle":"Making Music in Our Life-Skills Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quader","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1709117_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472101602271","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/quader"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43838","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":791,"numTeachers":81,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":63.8,"schoolId":43838,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Schaghticoke Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Schaghticoke Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/new-milford-public-school-district/schaghticoke-middle-school/43838"}
