The yarn served as both a tangible craft resource and a calming focus during sessions: students practiced knitting skills, passed materials and used the repetitive motion as a grounding tool while we explored current events and their personal impact. Creating something concrete while talking helped students connect, their feelings to real actions and increased their ability to stay present during reflection.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the yarn, they were visibly excited and immediately curious about the process. One memorable moment was when a student who is usually reserved began leading a mini lesson on a stitch she had learned at home– conversation flowed naturally, and the group moved into deeper questions about how recent events had affected their lives. We prompted \"getting deep\" reflections that encouraged students to consider their behavior, coping strategies, and their overall high school experience, which led to honest sharing and supportive peer feedback.\r\n\r\nThis project was highly positive: students reported feeling calmer and more connected, and several asked what the next project would be. Thank you for helping create a space where craft and conversation supported meaningful growth.","fullyFundedDate":1742047048839,"projectUrl":"project/threads-of-connection-hand-knitting-and/9142529/","projectTitle":"Threads of Connection: Hand Knitting and Social-Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jossie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9766206_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769809710818","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9766206"},{"teacherId":188716,"projectId":9739427,"letterContent":"I cannot begin to explain the look on my kiddos' faces when they saw me pull out my new Algebra 1 Math game.
