Because of your generosity, our students now have access to stress balls with positive and encouraging messages, a variety of fidgets, and calm strips. Students have been excited to explore the different options and find the tools that work best for them. The stress balls and fidgets are being used during individual and group counseling sessions to help students manage anxiety, stay focused, and feel more comfortable while talking and participating.\r\n\r\nThe calm strips have been especially helpful because students can put them directly on their computers and use them discreetly during class. This gives them a calming sensory strategy that can travel with them throughout the school day. Rather than coping skills being something students only practice when they come to counseling, they now have tools they can use independently when they notice themselves becoming stressed, distracted, or overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue helping students identify which strategies are most effective for them and incorporate these resources into our work on anxiety management, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and self-awareness. Our ultimate goal is for students to develop a toolbox of coping strategies they can independently access both in and outside of school.
