My students and I immediately put them to good use by reorganizing our classroom library. Now, books are displayed in a way that makes them more accessible, and students are naturally drawn to explore new titles. One of my favorite moments was watching a small group of students gather around the shelves, pointing out books to each other and getting excited about what they wanted to read next.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in and saw the shelves filled with books, their faces lit up. They were thrilled to have a library that looked and felt like their own special reading corner. Many of them even commented on how much easier it is to find books now, and some of my reluctant readers have been more motivated to pick up a book simply because the shelves invite them in.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are starting a reading project where students will choose independent books and create \"book recommendation cards\" to display on the shelves. This will not only encourage reading but also give students ownership over our classroom library. With the supplies to make hygiene kits, students are participating in daily self care routines as a part of their post-secondary transition goals in the area of independence. Students work with task analyses at their level to put on deodorant, brush their teeth, and wash their face. Toothbrush covers in this project help keep hygiene kits clean for use all year.\r\n\r\nThe photo cases serve a purpose other than holding photos in our classes. Students are able to work more independently by retrieving a color coded case from the box to complete task cards. This skill is aimed at the transition goal area of employment, as the task cards present pre-vocational and vocational skills practice that is vital to our students' long-term success. \r\n\r\nFinally, the science kits provide students the opportunity to increase their skills in the area of following directions, as well as to participate in the general education curriculum on an individual level. \r\n\r\nI cannot express fully how important these materials have been to student success.
