With the addition of clay, pottery tools, and ceramic supplies, this project opened space for creative problem solving, engineering thinking, and meaningful artistic expression.\r\nCeramics became a sensory rich medium where students explored form, function, and storytelling while strengthening academic skills across ELA, Math, and NGSS aligned science. As they designed, built, revised, and reflected, I watched them develop resilience, confidence, and joy — habits that will stay with them far beyond the art room.\r\nMany of my students learn best through tactile, visual, and kinesthetic experiences, and ceramics supported their growth in ways traditional materials cannot. They engaged in creative innovation, emotional expression, engineering design, fine motor development, and collaborative critique — building community through shared making and thoughtful feedback.\r\nWith these materials, students created functional and sculptural works connected to identity, culture, and community. They explored clay properties, applied measurement and geometry, investigated scientific concepts like thermal change and chemical reactions, and reflected on their artistic choices through writing and discussion.\r\nThis project empowered them to grow as thinkers, makers, and storytellers — giving them tools to understand themselves, their world, and the stories they want to share.","fullyFundedDate":1777993824630,"projectUrl":"project/sculpting-ideas-engaging-creative-think/10026307/","projectTitle":"Sculpting Ideas: Engaging Creative Thinking Through Ceramics and Pottery","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Spencer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9129266_orig.jpg?crop=1760,1760,x1370,y658&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701270979665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9129266"},{"teacherId":8559046,"projectId":10236818,"letterContent":"My main goal for this project was to replace our old, dare I say ancient, lab aprons. If I were to describe them as out of date, stained and lacking the protection my students needed, it would not have done them justice. I know it may seem like a small thing, but providing students with new equipment, whether it's a lab apron or even a clean beaker, it can have a meaningful impact on their mindset. When students are given clean, updated materials, they recognize that their learning and safety are valued. In contrast, worn or outdated equipment can unintentionally send the message that their classroom experience is less important, making it harder for them to fully invest in the learning process. By updating this essential safety equipment, you have ensured that my students feel secure while working hands-on in the lab. \r\n\r\nIn just a few short weeks, we have used the aprons to safely perform several labs, including frog dissections! I honestly cannot thank you enough for your compassion and generosity. I am excited to put these new lab aprons to future use and watch my students confidently engage in hands-on investigations for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1777596102148,"projectUrl":"project/lab-safety-for-learning/10236818/","projectTitle":"Lab Safety for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Klopp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8559046"},{"teacherId":2204143,"projectId":9746414,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of headphones to our classroom. Your support has truly made a meaningful difference in the way my students learn and create every day. Because of your kindness, students now have the tools they need to fully engage with the digital media projects we complete in class. \r\n\r\nThe headphones have completely changed how students are able to learn in our classroom. Students frequently work with video tutorials and instructional media while they build their own projects. Now they can clearly listen to directions, learn new skills, and stay focused on their work without distractions. Whether they are creating a film, editing audio for a podcast, or working on another media project, the headphones allow them to hear every detail of their work while keeping the classroom environment calm and productive.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the headphones allow each student to work independently while still respecting the learning space of others. Students can review tutorials, record audio, and edit their projects without distracting their classmates. This has helped improve focus, creativity, and collaboration across the classroom. Thank you again for helping make this possible and for supporting the learning and creativity of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1767233437796,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-focus-helping-students-l/9746414/","projectTitle":"Headphones for Focus: Helping Students Learn Without Distractions","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Giliberto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2204143_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1464295520333","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-giliberto"},{"teacherId":9129266,"projectId":9624317,"letterContent":"Impact Statement: Healing Through Art—Building Joy, Resilience, and Confidence\r\nI was hoping the support provided from Donors Choose would assist in directly transforming the emotional and creative lives of my Art One high school students (3 classes Semester One). The unit focuses on utilizing the Design Elements of: Line, Color, and Values. As well as Design Principles: Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, and Unity that would allow them to learn how to navigate the world and their own identities. Through this 3 week healing-centered art therapy unit, students used acrylics and gouache watercolors not just to make art, but to make meaning—about themselves, their challenges, and their hopes.\r\nTheir reflections show how deeply their work resonates with thoughtful intent. Students used color, music, symbolism, and personal storytelling to process emotions ranging from love and loss, to peace, perfectionism, and new beginnings. Some students discovered patience they did not know they had. Others found confidence in their ability to focus, persist, and express themselves honestly. Many of the students learned that even simple choices—like a single shade of orange or a carefully blended sunset—can hold powerful emotional truth.\r\nI am proud of the students desire to create a specific piece of art and provide thoughtful reflections on: Artistic Interpretation, Craftsmanship & Technique, and their Motivation in the Process.\r\nLong-term - with the support for materials and your help, students will eventually:\r\n•\tBuild emotional resilience as they explore painting techniques that require patience, reflection, and courage.\r\n•\tPractice mindfulness and emotional regulation through slow, intentional brushwork and color exploration.\r\n•\tUse visual storytelling to express personal challenges, triumphs, and identities\r\n•\tStrengthen perseverance as they work through artistic obstacles and celebrate small successes\r\n•\tDiscover confidence in their unique voices, learning that their stories and creativity matter.","fullyFundedDate":1760379296567,"projectUrl":"project/healing-through-art-building-joy-resil/9624317/","projectTitle":"Healing Through Art: Building Joy, Resilience, and Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Spencer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9129266_orig.jpg?crop=1760,1760,x1370,y658&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701270979665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9129266"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43616","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":485,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":82,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"8.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.1,"schoolId":43616,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bloomfield High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bloomfield High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/bloomfield-public-schools/bloomfield-high-school/43616"}
