The flexible seating and fidget bands have given students more options for finding a comfortable way to focus during independent work, reading, and small-group instruction. I have loved seeing students learn to recognize what helps them concentrate and make responsible choices about their learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe new books and Scholastic News magazines have also provided students with more opportunities to read about topics that interest them and make connections to the world around them. During math, students have been using multiplication games to practice their facts in a fun and interactive way. Our LEGO sets and STEM builders have created opportunities for students to work together, design, build, problem-solve, and persevere when their first idea doesn't work.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were incredibly excited! The STEM materials and LEGO sets were especially popular, and students immediately began talking about what they wanted to build. The excitement around the books and magazines was also wonderful to see. These materials have helped make our classroom a place where learning feels active, hands-on, and something students genuinely want to participate in.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources to support our curriculum while giving students opportunities to collaborate, create, and make choices. One of my favorite parts has been seeing students take ownership of choosing the tools that help them learn best. Some students choose to use the standing desk when they need to move while working, while others use the brain teasers during independent time to challenge themselves and practice perseverance. Our new books have also given students more choices when selecting something to read, helping them find texts that connect to their interests.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were immediately excited to explore them. The standing desk was especially popular! Students were eager to try it out and talk about how standing or changing positions might help them focus. They were also excited to see new books added to our classroom library and loved looking through the brain teasers. It was wonderful to see students recognize that these resources were there to help them learn in ways that work for them.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, students will keep practicing independence and learning how to recognize what they need to be successful. We will use the stoplight signal to help students monitor their voice levels and know when to work independently or ask for help. The mirror will give students opportunities to practice presentations, reflect on their communication, and become more aware of themselves as learners. I will also continue using the laminating sheets to create reusable games, visual supports, and learning tools that students can use throughout the year.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building a classroom community where students feel comfortable making choices, trying new strategies, and reflecting on what helps them learn. Before these resources arrived, he was having a tough time staying on track.\r\n\r\nHowever, when he saw the new items, everything shifted. I am thrilled to report that his scores went straight up, and his behavioral referrals have dropped significantly. Seeing that spark of pride in his eyes when he earns a reward has been the highlight of my month!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the room was buzzing! There were literal cheers as they explored the new prizes. For these students, these items aren't just \"stuff\"—they are visual goals that represent their hard work, self-regulation, and progress. Winona elementary has had a rough free years when it comes to music, so it was really wonderful to kick off the year with my students on new instruments. Watching their faces light up when I told them we were playing instruments was amazing. Many students weren't allowed to play instruments in previous years. \r\n Your gracious donation helped put a musical instrument in everyone's hands in class. No one had to share or take turns. It was a magical experience to be apart of. The older kids really enjoyed using the white boards to practice their treble clef notes and to create songs. Without your help, this wouldn't have been possible.
