Currently, students are creating animal-inspired canopic jars and will use underglaze to give rich details to build foundational skills. This will lead us to our next project, self-portrait busts. \r\n\r\nIn this project, students will use underglaze and glazing techniques to make their portrait bust look as much like themselves as their skill set allows. The wide variety of glaze colors will allow for better accuracy in color matching their busts to more accurately depict them as they are. I hope that this is project becomes and heirloom piece that they hold on to as they grow and age.\r\n\r\nI have a similar goal with my drawing and painting classes, but our previous lack of glaze options has made this particular type of project difficult to translate into a ceramics class.
