My school, and school district, falls under the Title 1 category. Title 1 is determined by the number of students who qualify for free and or reduced lunch. Many of our students do qualify for free or reduced lunch and many of those students live with extended family members such as grandparent/grandparents, who have financial strains. These things combined, add barriers to the academic success of my students. That being said, they don't also need the barrier of a lack of necessary materials and/or equipment within the classroom.\r\n\r\nWithin my scope of work, I work with both seventh, and eighth grade students. Additionally, I work with students who are either on an Individual Education Plan (special education) or who are on a path to having an IEP. This means that my students have needs beyond regular education. Therefore, they come to me as a resource teacher to provide instruction and support. This requires additional materials and accessibilities. \r\n\r\nOur school has not been immune to budget cuts. So, I put in a plan to get necessary supplies that I did not have within my classroom to eliminate barriers to student academic success. Thankfully, there is a Donors Choose platform and people and companies to provide materials through Donors Choose to teachers, students, and classrooms. \r\n\r\nI have benefitted from this program with a paper cutter, pencils, laminator, laminating sheet, pencils, pencil sharpeners, to name most things. I am very grateful and humbled by the generosity of people in supporting my classroom and my students. I hope some day to be able to donate to Donors Choose myself.","fullyFundedDate":1731628839521,"projectUrl":"project/student-focused-student-led/8706372/","projectTitle":"Student Focused, Student Led","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Potter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9708405"},{"teacherId":9629512,"projectId":8894149,"letterContent":"My students and I have been incredibly grateful for the new resources, as they have already made a significant difference in our classroom. One specific project we've been working on is a group performance of a beginner-level piece. With the new materials and cleaning supplies, my students have been able to progress more confidently in their musical journey. They were especially excited to receive cleaning supplies, as many of them had never learned how to properly care for their instruments. The first time we went over how to clean and maintain their instruments, there was a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm. It not only helped them feel more connected to their instruments but also instilled a sense of responsibility for their care.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their reaction was a mix of excitement and gratitude. They were eager to dive into learning and improving their skills, and there was a noticeable increase in motivation as they realized they had the tools they needed to succeed. The cleaning supplies also became a point of pride for them; they were thrilled to learn how to keep their instruments in top shape. Looking ahead, we are focused on building and expanding our music program so that we can make it more accessible to more students. The goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to engage with and benefit from music education. The next steps will involve growing our program's resources, fostering a greater sense of community, and encouraging more students to participate and explore their musical talents.","fullyFundedDate":1739687905164,"projectUrl":"project/empower-young-musicians-help-provide-es/8894149/","projectTitle":"Empower Young Musicians: Help Provide Essential Supplies for Music Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Marta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9629512"},{"teacherId":5242113,"projectId":9091803,"letterContent":"Your generous support for the Hear Us Learn project will make a significant difference in my classroom's learning environment. Providing a classroom set of headphones enables every student to engage more deeply in their educational journey. These headphones will empower my 6th-grade students to focus on personalized learning activities, complete assessments without distractions, and access audio resources that support their diverse learning needs.\r\n\r\nMany students benefit from audio-based instruction in our classroom, especially as we incorporate interactive digital tools and online resources into our lessons. With a set of high-quality headphones, students can listen to audio instructions, participate in online learning activities, and engage in educational videos without disrupting others. This will foster a better environment for individualized learning, allowing all students to succeed at their own pace.\r\n\r\nYour contribution will improve the quality of their learning experiences and encourage them to take ownership of their education. Your support has made a significant difference in how our students approach mathematical concepts, and I wanted to share some of the positive impact it has had.\r\n\r\nBy having access to calculators, students can now focus on understanding the deeper concepts of math rather than getting bogged down by lengthy or complex basic computations. This shift allows them to explore more advanced problems, practice critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills without the pressure of time-consuming manual calculations. As a result, they have been able to engage more fully with the material, showing greater enthusiasm and confidence in their ability to tackle new challenges.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, math was once a source of anxiety due to the difficulties of basic arithmetic. Now, with calculators as a tool, they're able to work through problems more efficiently, allowing them to see the bigger picture and better appreciate the relevance of math in real-world applications.
