My class is comprised of reluctant readers who are challenged with difficulties in comprehension. By providing high interest low lexile reading books students were able to pair off and read to each other. This powerful story deeply resonated with them and sparked meaningful discussions around diversity, inclusion, and the experiences of individuals in the Deaf community.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, this was their first time reading a book that featured a Deaf protagonist and explored the challenges and strengths of navigating the world with a disability. They were not only engaged and excited to read each day, but they also developed greater empathy and understanding for perspectives different from their own.\r\n\r\nThis project helped us create a classroom environment where every voice matters—spoken or signed.
