Now, when they come to class, they grab their binder and get right to work. Having access to their own materials empowers them and fosters a sense of pride and responsibility in their learning.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially engaged with the magnetic wands and word mapping tools. These resources have helped make abstract concepts more concrete and fun. One student, in particular, was able to access the word mapping task because it matched his current skill level — and the hands-on format kept him focused and motivated throughout the lesson.\r\n\r\nI'm excited to continue using these materials with even more students in the future. As a Mental Health Specialist, I use a lot of art supplies. Trauma is stored in our bodies. My work is often less about talking and more about regulating student nervous systems. As they create, we explore what feels regulating and what coping skills can be transitioned to the classroom and to home. The puppets have permitted students to play out themes in ways that allow them to experience some control.
