I am currently working on becoming certified in the OG approach. One of the requirements for my certification is completing 100 hours of supervised practice. As part of my practicum, I receive guidance through my mentors. The time spent with my mentors is very informative, however it is somewhat limited in time. ,I am one of the few teachers in my school district that is pursuing a certification through the International Dyslexia Academy. For this reasonI I'd like to meet other colleagues so I could have deep conversations about the work we do, and continue learning how to support my students. I'd love to go to the annual International Dyslexia Conference in Oregon to continue learning from experts, hearing others' experiences, sharing questions, concerns, and developing ways to better serve students. Students that received instruction using the Orton Gillingham approach showed great growth and were able to move on to their next grade level with good strategies to read independently. They were empowered through academic skills and showed more confidence in their social lives.
