Having class sets of each book means that students can read alongside their classmates, participate in discussions, and fully experience the progression of the series without having to worry about sharing limited copies. The books have introduced and strengthened important skills such as making inferences, analyzing characters and their decisions, identifying themes, using evidence from the text to support ideas, and comparing and contrasting stories within a series. Students are also learning how authors develop suspense, create vivid settings, and show character growth through challenges and adversity.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now an opportunity for students to become fully immersed in a shared adventure. We read together, pause to discuss what is happening and make predictions, and reflect on how characters respond when faced with difficult situations. Having the complete series available has allowed students to build on their understanding from one book to the next, rather than treating each story as a stand-alone experience. It has been especially exciting to see reluctant readers become invested in Brian's journey. Students who may not always choose to read independently are eager to find out what happens next, talk about the characters and their choices, and recommend the books to their classmates. The excitement surrounding these books has helped create a stronger reading community and reminded students that reading can be both meaningful and genuinely fun.\r\n\r\nThank you to our donors for making this experience possible. Your generosity has given our students not only books, but also the opportunity to share an adventure, grow as readers, and discover the joy of getting lost in a great story.","fullyFundedDate":1775131077985,"projectUrl":"project/growing-readers-through-adventure-help/9943373/","projectTitle":"Growing Readers Through Adventure: Help Us Finish Our Hatchet Series","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Burris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10056977_orig.png?crop=1290,1290,x0,y533&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750005884944","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10056977"},{"teacherId":2059219,"projectId":9454987,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to support my students! Through these amazing books, visual aids, and comfortable flex seating, I have already begun to change the lives of the 5th graders who experience them. \r\n\r\nFor example, I had a student who did not want to pick a book out to be his independent reading book to start the year. I asked him again to go pick put a book from my library, and again he refused. I pulled him aside and asked why he didn't want to pick out a book to which he said \"books are stupid, and I hate reading\". I told him that I didn't think he actually hated books or reading, and that he needed to find a book that interested him and an area that was conducive to his reading. \r\n\r\nFlash forward to this morning, when I entered the room after collecting my students and doing our morning routine, and this student was sitting on one of the comfortable flex seating, reading one of the books from the classroom project you all generously funded. I knew having comfortable seating options and a wide array of reading options would greatly impact my students in a positive way, I just didn't know just how big that impact would be.","fullyFundedDate":1750125348123,"projectUrl":"project/1st-year-teacher-looking-to-change-lives/9415382/","projectTitle":"1st Year Teacher Looking to Change Lives","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Burris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10056977_orig.png?crop=1290,1290,x0,y533&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750005884944","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10056977"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43030","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":330,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":43030,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/montrose-co-sch-dist-re-1j/northside-elementary-school/43030"}
